Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who has achieved great fame with the stories that she shares about her childhood heartbreak. Swift was a fan of music at an early stage and progressed swiftly through roles in the children's theater to her first appearance before a crowd of thousands. Swift began writing music when she was 11. She sang The Star-Spangled Banner for a Philadelphia 76ers game. Swift, who took her inspirations from Shania Twain's music and her band the Dixie Chicks now known as The Chicks within the realm in country music composed the original songs she wrote to express her feelings of alienation. At the age of 13, Swift's parents decided to sell their property in Pennsylvania in order to relocate into Hendersonville Tennessee so she could spend more time in courting the country music labels within the vicinity of Nashville.
